A Recumbent bike is a cardiovascular machine that gives you a similar workout than a regular exercise bike. The difference is the way the bike is set up. On a recumbent bike there is a bucket seat with a backrest. The pedals are out in front of you. so when you operate the machine, you are in an horizontal position. This can take pressure off your lower back and prevent you from slouching. Eventhough the bike is a piece of aerobic equipment, there are multiple muscles that you will work upon when you use one.
Quadriceps
Hamstrings and calves
Gluteus
Hip flexors
Abdominals
UPRIGHT BIKES
An Upright stationary bike can better simulate riding a road bike outdoors than a Recumbent bike. You can standup on the pedals on an upright bike, which can give you more power for climbing hills, possibly create more speed or give your buttocks a rest.Serious cyclists and triathletes can benefit more from an upright bike because of the similarities it will have tothe bikes they ride during their events. There are multiple muscles that you will work upon when you use this equipment.
